Orinda, California
ABOUT US
"Not far from this village, perhaps about two miles, there is a little valley, or rather lap of land, among high hills, which is one of the quietest places in the whole world." - Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1820)
The beautiful Sleepy Hollow community, with its iconic stone gates and whimsical street signs bearing names from Washington Irving’s famous story, is located in Orinda, California and comprised of 470 homes spread across 600 acres, just north of the 24 freeway. A highly-rated public elementary school and a private swim and tennis club lie within its boundaries.
This special place has a long history of community building:
-
The neighborhood organization was first established in 1948 as the "Sleepy Hollow Improvement Association".
-
In the 1970s, although no legally binding CC&Rs, it was renamed "Sleepy Hollow Homeowners Association".
-
The organization was well supported until 2012. At that time, due to an absence of leadership, the organization ran out of money. One very generous Sleepy Hollow family paid for all expenses for five years.
-
In 2017, with new leadership onboard, we reorganized as the "Sleepy Hollow Neighborhood Association" to continue the community work that started almost 80 years ago.
